Canada's national bird

The Gray Jay is the only Canadian bird commonly referred to by a traditional Indigenous name: the Cree name Wisakedjak, which has over time become "whiskey jack."

Just like your Canadian guide, the vast majority of its range is in Canada with none being recorded outside North America. Wisakedjak are historically the companions of First Nations hunters and trappers and European explorers and voyageurs. They are astonishingly good at making the most of even the coldest, darkest months. And, on top of all that, they're pretty friendly, too! Sounds like a Canadian, eh?

Spirit medicine says that if Wisakedjak has flown into your life, is it time to set new goals? Keep them in your sight while you make small steps to completion. It is a time of greater resourcefulness and adaptability that's about to unfold. You are going to have ample opportunities to develop and use your abilities. Wisakedjak teaches lessons of adaptation to any situation and learning quickly with a high intelligence, giving access to memories long forgotten and shows how to assimilate them into awareness. Wisakedjak demonstrates risk taking, seizing opportunities and discovering new avenues for exploration and will show the power of intelligence and fortitude balanced with discreet silence and utmost patience in timing.
